The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was formed in 1988 when the American Lutheran Church, the Evangelical Association of Lutheran Churches and the Lutheran Church in America merged.   Maple Sheyenne when founded, was a member congregation of the American Lutheran Church (ALC). But the ELCA traces its roots all the way back to the first Lutheran settlers who were immigrants from Europe in the mid 17th century and who could forget our “accidental” leader, Martin Luther during the Reformation.  We inherited a strong belief in God’s grace that frees us to love our neighbor.  The ELCA is divided into 65 synods and our bishop is the Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton. To learn more about the ELCA follow the link below!
